The Perfect Hot Chocolate Recipe for Yule
Yule is a good time to lean into the teas, the bone broths, the soups and the stews. We center our kitchen witchin’ around foods that need time to cook, that are not quick and active. They need time to steep, and to cook down. So the activity even in that arena is low. You think about the people in ancient times, and everyone is inside together. Think about a pot over the fire that you can eat on for days that you can add things to every now and then from the storehouse.
Here is a recipe for hot chocolate that I’ve been perfecting over the years:
1 cup non-dairy milk (or whatever you prefer, I like coconut milk)
1 tablespoon coconut oil
1 tablespoon raw cacao powder
1 teaspoon turmeric
3-4 shakes of cinnamon
dash of nutmeg
dash of all-spice
a bit of black pepper
a pinch of red pepper
a pinch of sea salt
1 tablespoon maple syrup - or to taste, sometimes less
Warm it all up on the stove, run through the blender and heat back up if necessary. I tweak the recipe depending on what I have....you can use water, add a teaspoon of maca, take out the tumeric and black pepper - all according to your taste. I like this drink in the morning for a little boost.
